Detailed description of Blacklake Golf Course

Blacklake Golf Course -Oaks/Lakes/Canyon, is a Public, 27 hole golf course facility located in Nipomo, California.

Located between Santa Maria and Pismo Beach Blacklake Golf Resort is the Central Coast's only 27 hole golf resort. Each of their three nines offer distinct challenges to golfers of all skill levels. From their water pools and scenic coastal hills on their original 18-holes "Lakes and Canyon" layout, to the unspoiled natural beauty of their newest nine, the "Oaks", Blacklake is a unique championship golf course.

The Lakes/Canyon course first opened for play in 1965. This par-72, 6,401 layout (Lakes-3,276 yards / Canyon- 3,125 yards) was designed by Ted Robinson, Jr.

Canyons Nine

The Canyons course unfolds along undulating terrain with several elevated tee boxes overlooking the fairways below. Here, the vistas and valleys invite a steady stream of refreshing sea breezes—helping you stay cool as you stand over that pressure putt.

Lakes Nine

<p> The Lakes course is the most forgiving of the three courses, with wide fairways that make it the perfect proving ground for newer golfers. It even opens with a par 3 to start your round off on a confident note. But it's also a long course, so you can't call it a pushover, either.

Oaks Nine

The Oaks course is the newest 9. It was designed by Robert Ogden. This layout plays to a maximum of 2,909 yards and par is 35.

The Oaks course offers a more intimate and sheltered setting, with fairways that wind through a forest of coastal oak trees. The Oaks course is more of a "target golf" experience, and you can find yourself in the woods if you’re not careful.

Played day three of a golf weekend (Cypress and Monarch as well). Had wanted to play Blacklake for years, but was disappointed in the conditions. Started with the practice range - only enough of it was open to provide room for 5-6 golfers (on a Saturday), and I was hitting out of mud. Then there was the 30 minute wait on the first hole for the green to be cut (at 9:30AM). Pace of play was slow, but I would expect that for a Saturday. There are a couple of choke points on the course where golfers are coming at each other from opposite directions, hitting balls into trees that carom all over the place (need to pay attention). Greens were okay, but fairways weren't great. They had a barbecue going, and the tri-tip sandwich was great. Nice way to finish.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Average course for the area

Owners hired a new GCS last year and the conditions have improved tremendously - greens are now green, not brown. Water availability is a real problem and it shows. Used to be one of the finest courses in the area but has deteriorated over the years.

Would travel: 60-120 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Played course in the past(few years ago) and it was excellent in all aspects. Presently,it is very dissapointing to see the shoddy display of greens and fairways.

Personnel and fellow players are biggest asset. Frequent player "club" makes it bargain for player on a budget. Has great attitude toward fostering play by younger players (First Tee & encouagement for hig school team play).

This use to be one of the best courses in the area and it has gone downhill FAST!Gopher holes in the middle of the fairways, lakes dried out with weeds growing everywhere, just no what it use to be. Its a shame cause the lay out is fun.

Blacklake has been known as one of the nicer courses in the area. I has gone down hill in the last year or so. The conditions of the fairways and greens have diminished. The staff there is very friendly and personable. The course offers a "Club" that you can join to get additional discounts and values for green fees and in the pro shop. Blacklake is also a sister course to Avila Resort Golf Course, where the Club membership is also endorsed.

3 nine hole layouts, all very different. The newest, the Oaks, is short with narrow fairways. Golf pro decides which 18 you play on arrival. Driving range mats in poor condition. Decent food and eating area. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere.

The course is in need of some repairs (i.e. bunkers, fairways). The price I paid is a limited time special. The weekend price is in excess of $80. This course has three 9 holes courses for different configurations. The Lakes, Canyons and the Oaks. The Oaks is short and narrow. The best configuration is the Lakes/Canyons.
